CLEMENZA TYPE SPECIMEN

Initially inspired by vertical, ribbon-like forms, the typeface displays minimal white space due to the expanded width of the upright structures in tandem with tight kerning. This claustrophobic effect is reminiscent of Neil Fujita’s title design for the cover of Mario Puzo’s novel, The Godfather. Hence the name, Clemenza, a nod to the portly member of the Corleone mafia family.

While not designed for lengthy blocks of text, the densely formed characters do provide compact, yet bold, letterforms suitable for titles on book covers, magazine articles and film posters, as well as logos. A booklet was created to display the features and uses of the typeface.
